18. Programming is so last year - Vibe coding is the new thing 🤖🤙

Prologue

Within this year alone, AI has already taken such a huge leap in terms of programming capability. I have been programming since I was 16, hence it is quite of a big deal to learn that doing actual coding is barely needed anymore. I was conflicted for a long time, but finally realized that building cool stuff was the thing I cared most about - coding is just a means to achieve that. The biggest realization was really that my creativity was the only limiting factor now. “Creativity” doesn’t just mean GUI designs and other fluffy things; it means being innovative and understanding solutions at a deeper level.

This is the real skill, which is why I want to explore this way of working much more. This month I have been working on 3 projects that show just how fast you can turn creatives ideas into reality (none of these being super complex - but still).

Project 1 - “FindDatBolig”

My girlfriend and I are looking at new places to live, but we are difficult. Other than the classic criteria of prices and overall location, we are very much intersted in being both close to reliable public transport options, and also not close to a large road, due to noise. So, I created this website that maps homes for sale, but also highlights public transport:

and large roads:

It comes alongside various filters, but also shows all the relevant information as would be there on a real estate agent website:

Notice that nearby bus routes are highlighted after clicking on a home.

Many websites surely do something similar, but this one is tailored to our need, and it was super easy to get up an running. An since it’s only for personal use, I don’t even need to take other people’s opinion about the user experience into account - awesome! Hopefully we will find a house. Time will tell…

Project 2 - “One ring to rule them all”

I want to find an engagement ring (for super unknown reasons), but since they are quite expensive, I want to at least know which one is the prettiest. My girlfriend has already in the context of the “grocery swiper” project proved that she is excellent at having preferences. Therefore we bring the swiping app back!

ring

Inspired by the swiping app concept, my girlfriend got to swipe 1500 rings so that I could learn which types of rings she liked and disliked. And no, she did not get to choose the exact one she wanted - I just need to understand her taste. Hopefully I will find a good ring. Time will tell…

Project 3 - “Veggie day alert”

People at work are complaing about the canteen placing the “Vegan day” on random days of the week, such that it’s impossible to work from home on those days. This problem is easily solved by just checking the weekly menus on the canteen’s website, but that would require WORK. As altruistic as I am, I made a scraper that sends out a warning Sunday evening.

mail

Were my collegues completely blown away by my creation? No. In fact, they were scared of the sketchy email address, which is absolutely absurd. I would gladly receive mails from mpautomation123@gmail.com ANY day. Hopefully it will be appreciated in the future. Time will tell.. you get the point now…
